The honest version first: gutter guards cut maintenance, they don't end it. Anyone telling you a guard means never touching your gutters again is selling, not explaining. What a good guard does is keep leaves, catkins, and grit out of the trough so water keeps moving — and turn a twice-a-year cleaning problem into an occasional rinse-off.

Around Austin the enemy is specific: live oak and pecan. Live oaks drop leaves in spring and follow with catkins that mat into a paste inside open gutters. Pecans add husks and leaflets through fall. If that's what hangs over your roof, guards earn their price. If your lot is young and open, they might not — and we'll say so.

How we do it
