We're a gutter company telling you how to hire a gutter company, so read this with that in mind. But these are the patterns that produce the horror stories, and every one of them is avoidable with the right question asked early.
Taking a phone ballpark seriously
A price quoted before anyone measures your roof is a guess with a sales strategy attached. Low ballparks get the appointment and grow on install day — surprise corners, surprise footage, surprise upgrade. The fix is simple: treat any number given before a measurement as fiction, and hire companies that put an exact price in writing at your house. Why the real number requires a tape measure is its own page.
Not asking who actually does the work
Here's an industry fact worth knowing: when a roofing or remodeling company quotes your gutters, the gutter work is very often handed to a specialty gutter crew — with the general company's margin added on top. We know because 911 Gutter Team is one of the crews those companies call around Austin. There's nothing wrong with the arrangement, but you're paying a referral fee you didn't know about. Ask any bidder directly: "Who is physically installing this?" Then consider calling that answer yourself.
Falling for the tier bait-and-switch
The pattern: an attractive quote on the entry-tier material, then pressure at the kitchen table — or on install day — that the entry tier is "really not what you want." Honest tiering looks different: all the tiers shown up front, physical samples in hand, the genuine differences explained, including when the entry tier is perfectly fine. If you only ever see one sample, ask why.
Never seeing the finished work up close
Gutter problems — flat slope, thin sealant, wide hanger spacing — are invisible from the yard and expensive later. Don't let the crew leave before you've looked at the work. Our version is built into the process: you walk the finished job with us — slope, seams, corners, downspout runoff — and sign off before final payment. Any company doing good work should welcome that walk; here's our whole process in the open.
The one question that filters everything
"Will you measure my roof and put an exact price in writing before I commit?" Companies built on ballparks and pressure struggle with that sentence. Ours is built on it — see for yourself, free.
